Santa Marta received over COP 1.2 billion from the 5th International Biofuels Conference
Santa Marta continues to strengthen its position as a strategic destination for meetings tourism. On May 8 and 9, the city hosted the 5th International Biofuels Conference, a high-level event organized by Fedebiocombustibles, which brought together more than 500 national and international attendees from the energy, agro-industrial, environmental, and governmental sectors.
This important event was secured by the Santa Marta Convention Bureau, reaffirming the city’s capacity to host events with a specialized, robust, and high-impact agenda. Over two days, participants discussed the future of the country’s energy sector, a just energy transition, the role of biofuels in sustainability, the mobility of the future, bioeconomy, public policy, and investment opportunities in this key sector for Colombia.
The event generated an estimated economic impact of USD 300,000, equivalent to more than COP 1.2 billion, reflected in revenue for hotels, restaurants, tour operators, ground transportation, and other sectors of the local value chain. The event supported local entrepreneurs by prioritizing the hiring of local services such as catering, production, logistics, and culinary experiences, creating a direct and positive impact on the city’s economy and strengthening the local event services ecosystem.
From the Santa Marta Convention Bureau, we emphasize that these types of events not only boost the local economy but also help position Santa Marta as an ideal destination for sustainable and impactful events. Our city offers a unique natural environment, a growing hotel infrastructure, improving connectivity, and a narrative that blends ancestral heritage, well-being, and sustainability.
The 5th International Biofuels Conference brought not only positive economic results but also knowledge, innovation, and connections among key actors working toward a cleaner energy future.
